Call from co-author a brand new Canadian title, Chicken Soup for the Soul O Canada The Wonders of Winter. “We’re looking for stories from people just like you, who might enjoy being published in a Chicken Soup for the Soul book. The story submission deadline is tight – July 20, but we need TRUE stories, 1200 words or less, about how you embraced and made the most of challenging or amusing winter situations. Here are some examples of topics, but we know you can think of many more:
·Hockey
·The support of family during the long cold months
·Friendships created out of the cold days and long nights
·Driving in the winter
· Facing the adversity of winter
·Overcoming the obstacles of the weather
·The back-yard skating rink!
·Winter sports: Hockey, curling, ice fishing, skiing, tobogganing, skating etc.

Writers whose stories are selected will be paid $200.00, get a bio in the back, and 10 free copies of the book. Because this book will be released in time for Christmas 2013, the deadline for stories is July 20. While the topic is winter in Canada, the stories still need to be Chicken Soup stories, which means there must be an inspiring moment of goose bumps, upliftment or laughter – there must be a gift for the reader. ITEM 8: THE AESTHETICA CREATIVE WRITING COMPETITION NEW!
I decided to give this one a its own spot as they allow both new and previously-published work to be submitted! This contest offers both existing and aspiring writers the chance to showcase their work to a wider, international audience. Now in its sixth year, the competition celebrates and nurtures creative talent, inviting writers to submit imaginative and original work in either category for entry: Poetry or Short Fiction.
Prizes include £500 prize money, publication in the Aesthetica Creative Writing Annual and a selection of books from partner organisations. The Ottawa Public Library (OPL) invites kids to participate in the TD Summer Reading Club (TDSRC) this summer. This year´s theme is Go! Kids can set their imaginations free this summer with books and programs about travel adventures near or far.
Children participating in TDSRC
will receive a passport and a pre-reading activity book or school-age magazine,
and stickers with secret codes that unlock rewards online. The illustrator of
this year´s TD SRC is Matt James, award-winning illustrator, painter and
musician.
Registration for TDSRC and all other children´s summer programs starts Wednesday, June 19.
During the summer, branches across the city will offer programming featuring trains, voyageurs, travel journals, Mount Everest, movie-making, global instruments, Victorian times, puppets, Bollywood dancing, and more!

ITEM 13 : ALGONQUIN COLLEGE SCREENWRITING WORKSHOPS NEW!

Algonquin College is hosting four screenwriting workshops from Monday, August 12 to Friday, August 16th, offering a unique opportunity for aspiring screenwriters to hone their talents and prepare for a career in the Canadian media industry.
The four workshops are: Introduction to Screenwriting; Advanced
screenwriting; Writing for Television; and Writing for Digital Media. All are taught by seasoned screen professionals who will guide participants’ projects and stories.
Classes from from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm from Monday to Thursday, and until noon on Friday. Participants will have an opportunity on Friday to pitch their projects to producers from the Ottawa area.
